Our Little Miracle - Mikayla

My labor with Mikayla was so LONG. I wrote most of the details here for my own record so feel free to skip over it and enjoy pictures of our little angel.

I had the weirdest labor ever! Mom and Maegan flew in to NYC on Tuesday June 22nd, my actual due date. When the doctor told me she was already 7lbs 13oz (based on ultrasound), we decided she needed to hurry and make an appearance before she got any bigger. We tried EVERYTHING! We tried accupressure, spicy foods, pineapple, squats, and TONS of walking. Thursday night I started having contractions. They didn't hurt at all but they were coming every 3-4 minutes. I couldn't call my doctor's office because their phone lines were down so I called the labor and delivery floor. I explained that the contractions were not painful but the nurse wanted me to come in anyways. Well, 4 hours later they sent me home. Poor Nathan had to go to work that day with only 1 hour of sleep. My doctor had me come to her office that day to be placed on the monitor. She kept saying she was so confused because the intensity of my contractions on the monitor were like real labor contractions - not Braxton Hicks. She was on call at the hospital so she had me come there to be monitored some more. Once again...sent home!

By my appointment on Monday, I was exhausted. The contractions still didn't hurt but they were making it impossible to sleep and I was exhausted. My doctor decided that I should probably be induced. So, I went for induction Tuesday night at 10pm. I labored through the night with no meds but I was getting tired and my doctor wanted me to rest before the big delivery so I decided that would be a good time to get my epidural. Wow! It was fantastic! I was totally pain free and able to sleep for a couple hours. Then, the pain started to come back...no problem...I just got more anesthesia...wrong! For some reason the anesthesia wasn't helping in one area no matter how much more medication he gave me. So, he decided to re-do the epidural. That one worked much better and I was able to get a little more rest. However, shortly after, Mikayla started to have some decelerations of her heart rate. I couldn't see the monitor but I knew her heart was beating very slowly and I was so afraid. I didn't want Nathan to panic but I guess he could tell what was going on. They rolled me over on my side to see if that would help and all I could do was pray, pray, pray that my sweet little girl would be ok. Around 3pm my Mom and Maegan made it to the hospital but I had to send them out right away because I knew the baby was coming any minute.

Twenty minutes later my sweet little girl was born. When they lifted her up and set her on my stomach, curled up in a little ball, she did the cutest thing. She stretched out her little neck and looked right up at me. It was so precious and something I will never forget. I guess the labor was long and hard for her too because her poor little face was pretty swollen and beat up. She is a PERFECT baby! She is a good sleeper and a great eater! She really only cries when she has a belly ache. I would have never survived those next couple of weeks without my Mom. She did everything - cooking, cleaning, laundry and of course helping with Mikayla.

Graduation

Oh man...this is so overdue! I figure it is time to catch up on summer events before the holidays. Graduation was WONDERFUL! My whole family came (except Maeg of course) We did so many fun things!

Whit was the first to arrive. She had been in D.C. visiting her roommate Tara and took the "China-town" bus to NY - Despite her concerns she was not kidnapped ;) Sorry Sis

Me and Whit trek through Central Park with all her luggage- harder than we thought!

Enjoying the chaos

Cutie

Oh, and she won the lottery at "In the Heights" and we sat front row

The next night Mom and Al flew in and we met Dad and Grady in Philadelphia. They had been in Pittsburg watching the Pirates and met us in Philadelphia to watch them play the D-backs. We got trashed but it was still lots of fun! Note: you MUST try philly cheese steak sandwiches when in Philly!

We got a hard time for wearing our D-backs shirts but the crazy funs went completely nuts when they saw Nathan come in wearing his Dallas Cowboys shirt - so funny!

Grady's awesome poster!

Cute Girlies!

I love Whitney's appearance in this one :)

With my favorite boys!

Na was such a good sport to drive through all that traffic - we were on the road longer than we were at the game

Getting a little stir crazy in the car

The next day was graduation! Nathan and my parents got me beautiful flowers and sat through a long and quite boring ceremony.

The whole gang

They think my coat is cool :)

I have the BEST parents EVER!!!

Girls!

We LOVE Tiffany and Devin and will miss our fun Office nights :(

So, this is kind of random...I was telling Carly one day in class that my husband got a job at Alliance Bernstein - what do ya know - that is where Steve works too!

Some of my cute classmates

We go out to a nice dinner but really, we're just not that civilized

Playing in the rain (poor Grady had just run into the fire hydrant trying to wave at passing cars)

My Cutie Husband

On the last day we did some sight seeing and ended the night with a little Broadway.

Subway from the Bronx

Some successful shopping - of course!

Dinner at ESPN-zone in Time Square

She's either hiding from the paparazzi or embarassed to be with us. What a doll!

Dad was going to surprise Mom and take her to "Lion King" for their anniversary but of course we had to spill the secret when we caught her searching for tickets for the whole family. Thanks for letting us be part of your anniversary :)

Lake Powell

Wow! I'm so behind on my blogging! At the end of July, Nathan and I went to Lake Powell with my side of the family. After enduring many years of nagging sisters, Grady was excited to have our cousin Ryan come keep him sane. It was such a blessing to have my Grandpa and Grandma Hansen with us as well! Maegy was very missed but she is working very hard on her mission and touching many lives....8 more months and she'll be back :)
We had the most wonderful time EVER! I have done this vacation for as many years as I can remember but this was Nathan's first time going with our family and I think he was pleasantly surprised. Sorry for the world's longest post...This is also my best attempt at a journal.

The boys watching Napolean Dynamite on the drive up

A really cool storm came one afternoon and made tons of these beautiful waterfalls...don't mind Al

The whole gang (other than Dad) cruising through The Escalante River

Just before Dad nearly killed us

Don't let their smiles fool you...they were plotting how to use alka seltzer to blow up the fish...I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty cool

Kayaking might be fun??? I wouldn't know, these two were trying to tip us the whole time :)
